A WOMAN died and a teenager, believed to be her daughter, was left recovering in hospital after a horror smash in the Hunter Valley.
Police believe the family of three was driving from their home in Singleton to Sydney on Saturday afternoon when their Toyota Landcruiser veered off the side of Wine Country Road, North Rothbury, and smashed into a power pole shortly before 5pm.The front passenger side of the vehicle struck the pole and was crushed, killing the 48-year-old Singleton woman instantly.Her husband, 50, who was driving the four-wheel-drive, and their 15-year-old daughter in the back seat were injured during the smash.Both were taken to John Hunter Hospital with multiple minor injuries and were in a stable condition last night.Newcastle Crash Investigation's Peter Stace said police understood the crash was in dark and wet conditions."At this stage we're still investigating the cause of the crash," he said."We'll be continuing our investigation into the incident tomorrow [Monday]."The crash investigation unit was assisted by officers from the Hunter Valley Local Area Command who blocked off the road and secured the crash site for investigation.Police are expected to release the name of the woman who died in the crash later this week.A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Western Sydney earlier in the day.? A MAN has been slashed across the stomach after a group of motorcyclists confronted him in a road rage incident south-west of Sydney, police say. A 32-year-old man was driving on Remembrance Drive at Razorback about 7.30pm on Saturday when he and a motorbike rider had a traffic dispute. The victim, from Tahmoor, told police he got out of his car and was confronted by three other men on bikes, one of whom slashed him across the stomach with a knife. He managed to drive home and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital where he had surgery. Police are investigating and seek public help. with AAP
